    • It’s just OK.

Best advice I can offer is to test drive it thoroughly on familiar roads and traffic. It might be great for you. Repeating a trend here, I took a short test drive and bought off the showroom floor. Just 3800 miles and I can’t bring myself to like it. A good attempt by Audi but this vehicle is too unrefined for the brand premium. The transmission, or programming of it, sucks the life out of the car. I haven’t found any drive mode inspiring and oftentimes it just doesn’t know what it should do, preferring to get in 8th gear and stay there until it’s dogged out and it jumps to 5th. It’s nearly impossible to find consistency in throttle modulation and it isn’t linear or intuitive. The other reviewers are right about the auto start/stop killing the steering. I also find the ergonomics to be an afterthought. Armrests and reach to the steering wheel and window controls are awkward and tiring. I put the rear seats down a lot and it drives me berserk that you have to move the front seats forward to get the headrests to pass. It’s a well designed car aesthetically and the fit and finish is great. I have the 20” wheels and it holds and corners well. The fact that it’s such a slug to drive is a deal breaker. I will be going back to my previous brand as soon as I am willing to accept the cost.
    • Such a welcome upgrade

      5.0
After really enjoying my 2016 A3 for about 4 years, I upgraded to my new 2021 fully-loaded Q3 and could not be happier. The small (but not tiny or cramped) SUV gets great gas mileage--I routinely do much better than the EPA estimates--and drives like a dream. I have taken several road trips in the car with multiple adult passengers and everyone remarks on how comfortable it is. In addition to being well-powered and sporty, the interior is extremely luxe; definitely what you're paying for. The virtual cockpit and 10+ inch center dash screen are incredibly easy to use. With Apple CarPlay, the dash basically becomes an embedded iPad. The bird's eye camera and automatic parking are just nuts, and the adaptive cruise control is a must-have. Even with big wheels and summer tires, the ride is incredible smooth and comfortable. Very pleased with this SUV, which makes me feel like less of a suburban soccer mom than the Q5 does ;-)

I got this as a rental car for vacation. Disclaimer I won’t speak on the reliability or value for dollar as I did not buy this vehicle Exterior 3/5 Shaped like a basic small suv. Though I do really like the led tail lights. Headlights, I definitely expected more as it’s a premium brand. Not sure if the headlights are led or hid surely I could find out through a Google search but based on light output I'm sure they are led lights. It’s a reflector housing that gives only adequate lighting (not enough light down the road). This is just my opinion. Base model base wheels look decent enough. Interior 3/5 It’s pretty tight in there. I’m 5’11 265 and the driver seat is pretty comfortable, still a little tight though. There’s definitely a lot of room with adjusting the seat and the telescoping steering wheel. Passenger seat has manual controls. Audi definitely skipped out and saved money while still charging a premium for the vehicle. Passenger seat does not have a lot of adjustments and has a dang roller for the seatback, come on Audi. Additionally the passenger seat does not go back far enough. Back seat is extremely tight, especially with a car seat if it’s in the middle, it’s not wide enough. The center console/ armrest has a ton of adjustments. You would think this might be a great feature but it is not. It's frustrating to manage the adjustments then if your elbow hits it the wrong way it will reset the adjustment and put it back in the beginning position. Trunk area, it’s small as it is a small suv. Adequate for a few small or medium sized luggages. Take out the car seat, the seats fold down and increase cargo space if you have to move larger items. Sunroof is nice though I saw what appeared to be rust from a leak in the upper lining yuck. Overall it’s an ok place to be while driving. Infotainment/sound system 3/5 Infotainment was just ok. Pretty easy to use. The reverse camera gets stuck on at times and is annoying. Also using Apple CarPlay disables itself sometimes causing me to unplug then plug in the cable that connects my iPhone. Sound system is actually pretty decent. There’s a little bit of adjustment for treble and bass only. The highs, mids and lows sound full and don’t distort at high volume much. I actually like the sound system. Performance/ transmission Power comes from a 2.0t that makes 228hp according to Google. Foot on the gas there’s definitely lag from pressing the pedal to getting the vehicle moving. There is also a bit of turbo lag which makes the power nonlinear which I don’t mind and actually like. The vehicle is a bit heavy and you definitely feel it in the turns and acceleration even if it is pretty peppy. I’d estimate the 0-60 at 7 seconds. Not bad at all. There is body roll but it’s rather compliant for a small suv. There’s definitely enough passing power for the average person. Now over to the transmission side of things. The transmission hunts for gears quite often even when driving it normally around town. Occasionally there’s a big clunk into gear enough to make you say geez. Dynamic mode helps clean up some of the foot to gas input lag and gear hunting. Stopping the vheicle is pretty mediocre as well. You hit the brake pedal and it has an initial sponginess but then firms up. I didn't have a race track to test the 0-60 or 60-0 just the busy streets of Hollywood Florida. Overall the power is decent but that alone isn’t enough for me to truly enjoy the driving experience. Final thoughts and alternative vehicle This is a small vehicle for maybe having one kid and a small/medium pet. The vehicle is mediocre at best. I definitely expected more from a premium brand like Audi. I didn’t really pay attention to gas mileage but I got around 25 mpg. I wouldn’t recommend this vehicle until they fix the foot input lag and gear hunting. The vehicle I'd recommend though not a premium is the Mazda CX-5 with the 2.5t.
